Personal Social Health Education (PSHE)
Children who are emotionally healthy do better at school. PSHE helps children and young people to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn. These include developing strengths in the everyday aspects of life such as managing their anxiety and the development of healthy relationships. PSHE education also helps pupils to develop skills and aptitudes – like teamwork, communication, and resilience – that are crucial to navigating the challenges and opportunities of the modern world, and are valued by employers.
The PHSE curriculum is an integral part of school life, helping the children to gain the knowledge, skills and understanding which they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. Our work has been acknowledged by the Healthy Schools programme. We use the Jigsaw scheme to support our PSHE teaching and the school has achieved the "Healthy Schools" accreditation.
We encourage the children to learn to respect themselves and others through the curriculum and through after school activities. Our School Council gives the children the opportunity to elect representatives to discuss issues such as playtimes, homework and bullying. The children learn about their rights and responsibilities through class discussions and through a weekly discussion in Key Stage assemblies. Classes organise fund raising activities, which include the annual charity stalls at the end of the Summer Term when every Key Stage 2 class runs a variety of activities for other children to try.
