Art
Art in all its forms embodies the highest of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education engages, inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they begin to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They learn how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. Art has a value in allowing children the freedom to express themselves in a visual form that serves to act as a form of communication and interaction with the world.
We value the Arts at Yorke Mead and encourage children to feel confident to explore all of the creative arts. In visual art children have the opportunity to develop skills using a variety of media and techniques working in two and three dimensions. Children are taught about famous artists and their work and are encouraged to develop a critical appreciation of artist's work from a range of styles and historical periods. As a school we recognise that it is just as important to build skills in art as it is in maths and other subjects and our planning reflects this.
Children are encouraged to mix paints and colours for themselves from the primary palette.
