What we do

The Governing Body’s main aim is to help raise standards of achievement and make sure the school provides a good quality education.  The day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher and staff.  Rather than manage, governors are there to help shape the school’s future direction and focus.  Governors work as a team. Individual governors have no power or responsibility. It is only the full governing body which has legal duties and powers and all governors share in that corporate responsibility. Here are some examples of the work we do:-

  • Together with the Headteacher we are responsible for making sure our school provides good quality education.
  • We provide challenge and support to the Headteacher, drawing on our knowledge and experience.
  • We make decisions together on matters such as performance, targets, school policies and school development plans.
  • We monitor the impact of policies.
  • We oversee the school budget and staffing.
  • We look at ways to improve the building and facilities within the constraints of the budget.
  • We listen to feedback from pupils, parents and staff and consider complaints.
  • We ask searching questions and respect the position of the Headteacher as the professional leader of the school.
