Personal Development
The Yorke Mead Way
Personal Development (PD) focusses on preparing pupils for their adult lives, nurturing their overall growth, including their character, confidence, resilience and understanding of the world around them.
We want our pupils to enter the wider world as:
-
Happy, positive individuals
-
Responsible citizens who make a positive contribution
-
Confident, resilient, healthy & life-long learners.
Whilst at Yorke Mead the children will experience a range of personal development opportunities beyond the classroom. This is included in the Yorke Mead road below:
Life skills at Yorke Mead
Alongside the national curriculum we believe children need to learn life skills that will support their future. This includes:
Self-care skills, school skills, first aid, looking after themselves and knowing their key information.
See attached the life skills children will learn throughout the school
Ambition at Yorke Mead
To inspire ambition in our children, we will be exploring the Little People, Big Dreams book series, which celebrates the lives of remarkable individuals. Through shared reading sessions followed by engaging activities, children will learn about people who have made a significant impact on the world.
Each half term or term, children will focus on books that highlight individuals who have:
-
Overcome significant barriers
-
Changed the world through their actions
-
Achieved their dreams against the odds
-
Made notable contributions as artists
-
Excelled as sports personalities
